Set in a beautiful 52 acre site, Abbots Bromley School for Girls has been the heart of first class learning for over 135 years and has a long history of providing a centre for excellent all-round education. It is one of the oldest Woodard Schools and the very first Woodard School for Girls and since its origination the school has evolved and progressed, building on its respected heritage whilst maintaining a world-wide reputation for being at the cutting edge of education.

The site was originally the school of S. Anne, established in 1874 and the school of S. Mary, established in 1880. The two schools merged in 1921 and became Abbots Bromley School for Girls in 2004. Today S. Anne's is home to the senior school for girls aged 11-18 and S. Mary's home to 'Roch House', our newly established co-educational preparatory school.

Our flourishing boarding and day schools offers an exceptionally enriching experience for pupils of all ages, enjoying and taking advantage of first-class resources and excellent opportunities. These include the unique chance to pursue Dance studies at all levels; Riding in the indoor and outdoor schools and the cross-country course; a dedicated Music School and Performing Arts Theatre; Sports Hall, indoor Swimming pool, astro-turf Hockey pitch and Athletics track providing unrivalled Sporting opportunities for pupils.

Unashamedly non-selective, the school provides an effective and supportive environment where each and every pupil is valued for themself and encouraged to give and achieve their very best.

What are my own impressions as Headmistress?

The warmth of welcoming, smiling faces. Pupils aged 3 to 18, parents and staff alike – all clearly enjoying and appreciating the buoyant and thriving environment.

'TRINKETS' - CHARITY FUNDRAISING ANTHOLOGY OF POETRY LAUNCHED

A charity-raising anthology of poetry, named ‘Trinkets’, has recently been launched with proceeds raising funds for the Women’s Refugee Commission.

The anthology was compiled by a group of Year 13 students in conjunction with Sarah Akhtar, a former pupil of the school who had offered a collection of previously undiscovered poems written by her grandmother to the school, for use as a teaching aid in the English department. Sarah joined forces with some of the pupils to put a selection of the poems together and publish them as a book and to raise funds for the Women’s Refugee Commission – a charity focused on helping improve the lives and protect the rights of refugee and internally displaced women, children and young people around the world.

This treasure trove of poems also features a fascinating contribution of work from other poets which were collected by the pupils to add to the anthology. These include works from notable, award-winning and budding poets throughout the UK and also from pupils in the senior and preparatory schools at Abbots Bromley. ‘Trinkets’ was launched at a special event at the school and welcomed guest speaker, Carolyn Makinson who gave a fascinating talk on the work of the charity. Carolyn is the Executive Director of the Women’s Refugee Commission and former pupil of Abbots Bromley School for Girls. She and Sarah were class mates at school and have remained close friends throughout their lives.

Carolyn commented: “It was absolutely super to be back at AB and to see how well the school is doing. It’s wonderful to see this beautiful book and the girls have done so well.” Sarah Akhtar said: “I did this for my grandmother and I’m sure she would have been incredibly proud of what the girls have achieved and how the proceeds of Trinkets will be used. I feel that we have all learned a great deal by doing this project and as well as raising money and increasing awareness for the Women’s Refugee Commission this has been a rewarding journey in itself for both myself and the girls.”
