Abbots Bromley School for Girls in Staffordshire recently celebrated exemplary results from an Ofsted boarding inspection. The routine inspection conducted by Ofsted, the Government’s school’s standards and inspection department, showed that the school has an “outstanding” offering in many areas including helping boarders ‘to be healthy, enjoy and achieve’ and showing that the school was ‘well ordered and caring’. AB offers weekly, full, flexi and occasional boarding options for girls from the age of 8 to 18 and there is a close family unit feeling to its boarding community where every individual is valued and treated sensitively and friendships quickly grow between all ages. The inspection report commented that the students and staff ‘enjoy positive and respectful relationships’ and that they benefit from a supportive boarding experience which is ‘open and inclusive’. Ros Francis, Head of Boarding at Abbots Bromley School for Girls said: “we were thrilled with the results of our recent boarding inspection and the comments from the inspector highlighted our exemplary standards, our warm family atmosphere and the superb honest and open relationships between boarders and staff. We have a wonderful boarding community here at AB and offer great value for money. Our boarders have a secure and homely environment and are kept busy at the weekends with a wide variety of events and fun and cultural outings, all of which are included in the price of the fees. We’ve seen a big growth in the number of girls boarding over the past 4 years and the results of the recent inspection confirmed why boarding is so popular here at AB!” |

Sixth Form students from Abbots Bromley School for Girls in Staffordshire spent an educational and cultural day in London encompassing the subjects of Art, English and Politics. Their visit included The National Gallery, Tate Britain, a talk and inspection of original manuscripts in the British Library, the newly opened Supreme Court and the Houses of Parliament. The idea for the trip to London was prompted by a literary reference to a painting by Gainsborough and enthused by the notion of seeing this particular work a specially tailored programme of activities was organised for the Sixth Form students. The trip was accompanied by AB teachers; Mr David Gleeson Head of Art, Mrs Victoria Hawley Politics and Sociology teacher and English language teacher Ms Elizabeth Godwin. The English and Art students visited the National Gallery then went on separately to workshops at the British Library and to visit international art dealers, with the groups joining together at the end of the day to view Pre-Raphaelite paintings at Tate Britain. Politics and Sociology teacher Mrs Victoria Hawley said: “The politicians enjoyed a day of viewing the political architecture and institutions that shape our constitution – from Whitehall to Westminster. The statues of the political figures such as Churchill, Peel and Pankhurst brought their historical studies to life while visiting the newly opened Supreme Court enabled the students to witness history in the making. It was a unique experience for all the students!” |

Following a ten month £500,000 refurbishment programme the indoor swimming pool at Abbots Bromley School for Girls was recently officially opened by Councillor Alex Fox MBE. A lively swimming gala was also held to mark the occasion and a number of competitive races and fun activities were enjoyed by Year 6 pupils. The school’s pool has benefitted from an extensive refurbishment including a state-of-the-art pool lining, newly extended and refurbished changing facilities and showers and an extensive selection of pool accessories including training aids and games equipment. The pool is heated by solar panels on the roof of the building which provide up to 40% of the energy used to heat the pool. Councillor Alex Fox said: “Healthy living and exercise are so important in today’s society to avoid unnecessary ill health in later life. To open this splendid swimming pool will mean children of all ages will be taught the value of sport and recreation activities. I was particularly impressed with the School’s outward looking policy, which encourages the use of the pool by outside organisations. Abbots Bromley School goes from strength to strength and parents can be assured of the very best for their children.” |
